Pangasius exports to China and Hong Kong increased by 15% in September 2023
In September 2023, pangasius exports to this billion-people country recorded positive double-digit growth, up 15% with a value of 56 million USD. This is the first time since February 2023 that pangasius export turnover to China and Hong Kong has returned to positive growth. Of which, the Chinese market alone reached 53 million USD, an increase of 16% compared to September 2022.
In this market, dishes cooked using frozen Vietnamese pangasius fillets and steaks are a hit with consumers. Fresh, frozen, or dried pangasius products—both whole fillets and portions, making up 33% of the total and generating a revenue of 143 million USD. When comparing the third quarter of 2023 to the preceding quarters of this year, the value of Vietnamese pangasius exports to China showed positive growth of 7% and 11%, respectively. This is also seen as one of the bullish market indications in light of global volatility, inflation, and warfare.
